Pinoy Coffee Video Thursday #12: Piolo and Angel for San Mig Coffee

Here in this commercial we see two of the most popular stars in the Philippines today and they're Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin. They're endorsing a coffee product, San Mig Coffee, by one of biggest companies in the Philippines which is San Miguel Corporation. As everyone knows they're the makers of world known San Miguel Beer and local brand Magnolia.

San Mig Coffee is relatively new and they're trying to penetrate the coffee market here in the Philippines. Getting two of the most popular endorsers is a good strategy but would that be enough? Nescafe seems to have been around for at least three decades and has been strong in holding on to the number 1 spot. It would take lots of great marketing for San Mig Coffee to reach number 1 but if they're happy with just a small chunk of the market then I think they've done just fine.

I must admit that I haven't tasted San Mig coffee even if they've been in the market for over a year now. Why? Because I feel weird drinking coffee that's named similar to its beer, San Miguel. Anyone of you who has tasted this coffee let us know. Thanks!

Pinoy Coffee Video Thursday #11: Bamboo for Nescafe

If you've noticed, most of the videos here are from Nescafe. Why? Because they do create wonderful commercial with catchy songs. Here's another Nescafe Coffee commercial with Bamboo singing. Nescafe sure knows how to get the bands/singers who are really popular. It's now wonder they're one of the most popular coffee brands here in the Philippines. Enjoy! One good day coming up!

Pinoy Coffee Video Thursday #10: Coffee in the Philippines

This is a very informative video by GMA7 where they show coffee in three parts: a woman who drinks 10 cups a day (that is what she claims), a cupping expert who explains how there are different types of coffee beans here in the Philippines and last is interview with the owner of Figaro (Pacita Juan) as she explains the coffee industry here in the Philippines and how every Filipino can help support it.

They formed Kape Isla where they showcase different coffee products/brands from around the Philippines. You may purchase your local beans in their Serendra branch to show your support to our coffee industry.

Filipinos are really coffee drinkers and according to the video even the production of coffee beans here can't supply the demand within the country. We will have to plant more and plant more if we are hoping to supply our demand and those of other countries.

Pinoy Coffee Video Thursday #9: Nescafe goes Reggae

Another Nescafe commercial here in the Philippines that I was not able to watch...again! Good thing there's Youtube! This commercial was made for the summer..something to shake your summer and you can do that with Nescafe.

After posting videos for the last couple of months, I have realized that Nescafe does really splurge on creating ads and nice songs for their target market. I am sure it has been effective since it is one of the most popular coffee brands here in the Philippines.

Coffee Video Thursday #8: Civet Coffee

Have you ever heard of the Philippine Civet Coffee? Kopi Luwak, or Civet coffee is coffee is coffee made from coffee berries, mainly found in the Philippines and other parts of Asia, which have been eaten by and passed through the digestive tract of the Asian Palm Civet (also known as the Toddy Cat, a cat-sized mammal). Weird right? I haven't tasted it though since everywhere I go it quite a huge "tag price attached" to it(One of the most expensive coffee in the world, selling for between $120 and $600 USD per pound). I will eventually try this since I'm getting curious by the day.

Learn more by watching the video above (It's in Tagalog though).

Coffee Video Thursday #7: Parokya ni Edgar for Nescafe Coffee Ad

Here's another Nescafe 3 in 1 Pinoy Coffee Ad performed by Parokya ni Edgar, one of the more popular bands here in the Philippines. Just like most Nescafe Coffee Ads, this is also one of their more creative ones and like other songs by Parkoya, this has got a nice tune to it. This is a very catchy ad that I wasn't able to watch on tv. Good thing there's youtube, where I was able to get this video.

Parokya Ni Edgar - Nescafe Jingle Song Lyrics

Patakbo-takbo
Iba't ibang pinatutunguhan
kung minsan 'di na natin alam
ang ating pupuntahan

ang bilis ng mundo
kung minsan ay nakakahilo
may naghihintay na lunas dito
kung gusto mong huminto

chorus:
a cup in hand
relax ka lang at sumabay
with a cup in hand
let's all hang out for awhile
tumambay muna tayo diyan sa tabi
may baon na kwentuhan at kape
one moment
one NESCAFE

Coffee Video Thursday #6: Nescafe Coffee Ad 1977

This is a Nescafe TV Ad back in 1977 that I saw in youtube (Thanks to Adman1909). It is such a great feeling to watch some old Filipino TV commercials. I must admit that at first, the song wasn't that catchy but after watching it, I didn't realize that I was singing it and it was stuck in my head. The coffee commercial must have worked on me and it makes me want to drink coffee. Drink coffee...relax and reminisce..

Hmm..I'm not yet old though and I wasn't born yet when this showed but it just fascinates me how times really have changed - from what people used to wear to the production of TV commercials but one thing remains and that is coffee hasn't changed. It is still a wonderful thing, don't you agree?

Another thing that makes me wonder, was the sport Polo popular back in the days? Since it's in the commercial, maybe it used to be popular. The Polo Sport that I know now, besides the shirts and perfume, is not that popular anymore since it's quite an expensive sport and I feel that there are only few places where you can really play and open fields are not counted (I think). It raises the question, was Polo a sport for any Filipino before OR did Nescafe used to be a very expensive brand that only caters to the Class A/B. Or maybe I just misinterpreted the whole point of the commercial. What do you think?

Coffee Video Thursday #5: Folgers Coffee Commercial

Here we see some Filipinos trying to do their own version of the Folgers Coffee Jingle back in the 90s. There have been a lot of versions done for this jingle but I'd have to say this was actually good. It was funny to see them dancing with their cups (without any coffee). Great job on this Folgers Coffee video!

Coffee Video #4: Blur's Coffee & TV

We have been showing ads lately we've decided to show something lighter today - Blur's Coffee & TV. The words coffee & tv are in the lyrics but the video isn't really about coffee. In fact, it's about a walking and animated milk carton who looks for Graham Coxon (a band member), who has gone missing and is being missed by his family. The milk carton faces a lot of trials throughout his journey which includes a near death(crushed) moment with a garden strimmer. Good thing it caught a break when a motorcyclist gave it a ride going downtown, where he experienced more hazards like being chased and losing a special someone. While asking for Coxon, he meets the love of his dreams who is a strawberry milk carton, which was suddenly crushed to death by a passer-by's foot. He then finds Coxon playing with his band, Blur. The window it was leaning on falls and Coxon picks it up. Coxon then rides the bus and returns home. Before entering to meet his worried family, he drinks from the carton which ends its "life." It was a happy ending though, as Coxon reunites with his family while the carton reunites with the strawberry milk carton as they go to heaven.

Coffee Video #3: Nescafe 3-in-1 Freshman Ad

My apologies for not being able to upload the video at once for this week's Pinoy Coffee Tickle Thursday. But I promise you this week's video is a great one and something that would really make you smile. It's a commercial by Nescafe 3-in-1 Coffee(again!) entitled "Freshman" which was aired during the start of school (June '08) here in the Philippines.

This coffee ad shows a freshman during his first day of school and seeing different people, portrayed as aliens, in the cafeteria. Being a freshman, you don't know what lies ahead of you especially during your first day and it's just great how people of different culture or worlds (for this ad) welcome you and share something common with you and that is of course love for coffee. That's why in this ad it's "1 Different World, 1 Familiar Mix, 1 Instant Connection"

That's just a great commercial with lots of meaning attached to drinking coffee. A lot of things really do happen over coffee and if we could extend a hand or let strangers feel welcome over a cup of coffee then that would really be a Pinoy Coffee Tickle Moment. Using the words of Nescafe...One Moment..One Pinoy Coffee Tickle..One Pinoy..

Tickle Away to a Great Day everyone!

Coffee Video #2: Cafe Puro 4-in-1

I encourage everyone to watch this video. To all those who can't understand Tagalog let me explain the advertisement. The Cafe Puro coffee is being compared a crab and how it can be used in different ways. You may eat it, use it to play truth or consequence, use it to pluck your eyebrow, and you may use it as a fan. As for the coffee it has 1. The Coffee 2. The Sugar 3. The Creamer and the fourth is "THE CUP." There you have it, the Cafe Puro 4 in 1.

When I saw the title, it made me wonder what was the other ingredient in the 4 in 1. I was curious so I watched, only to find out that the fourth ingredient was "the cup." I never saw this product in groceries. My guess is that it was pulled out immediately after the company realized that the public would not be fooled by this type of marketing.

Tell me what do you think about the 4th ingredient, "the cup." Can it be considered the 4th ingredient or was it just something to grab the attention of the public?

Coffee Video Thursday #1: Nescafe Commercial

This is just a great video by Parokya ni Edgar, Champ and Zsa Zsa Padilla for Nescafe 70th Anniversary. The effects really fit the mood and the song. You could really feel the whole video and just sing along. It just makes you want to drink coffee and relax and i-"Tuloy and Kwento" with Nescafe...
